SAMI SaulaSAMI SAULA is a trained musician and acrobat, studying percussion and music theory in France for 10 years before he came to LV in 2004 as a freerunner/parkour acrobat for KÀ by Cirque du Soleil, where he also currently serves as back-up guitarist.
A primarily self-taught guitarist, Sami's interest in gypsy jazz guitar was roused in 2008, after hearing an ensemble perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Since then, Sami has discovered clever ways to be both soloist and rhythm guitar through the use of his handy-dandy loop pedal. In this way, Sami comes even closer to the classic "Django-esque" sounds of gypsy jazz through his guitar. Ever the composer and percussionist, Sami's artistry on his caisa, a Swiss steel "hang drum" (or "tortoise shell", as he calls it) is many times the highlight of his performances. SHANA TuckerSHANA TUCKER is a singer-songwriter and cellist, originally from New York by way of North Carolina. Her recent journey to Las Vegas was the result of an NPR interview that was playing on a Cirque du Soleil talent scout's car radio on his PM commute. Prior to relocating, Shana was pursuing a budding independent-artist career, promoting her debut CD project, SHiNE in the Raleigh-Durham/Triangle area of NC.
Currently serving as cellist and vocalist for KÀ since December 2011, Shana balances her ChamberSoul independent career with her F/T show schedule by with concerts and performances whenever she can. Shana heard her colleague Sami Saula practicing his gypsy jazz technique between shows one evening and asked him to teach her the rhythmic strumming technique and a few basic chords. This led to the incorporation of Shana's cello to cover the bass line, and also figuring out what songs they both knew that they could play together as either instrumentals or with the addition of vocals. Not wanting to give up her indie-artist creative outlet, Shana asked Sami to accompany her at a casual coffeehouse gig she'd secured, combining her ChamberSoul style with the gypsy jazz standards they'd been working out. The rest is history.
